OUTRAGEOUS COURT DECISION PDF Print E-mail

Not LaughingFor those of you who haven't heard, Larrikin Music are suing Men At Work for two bars of the flute riff in their iconic Australian hit, Down Under. A court judge has ruled in favour of Larrikin Music who now are claiming up to 60% of the royalties from the hit song. Larrikin Music acquired the copyright to Kookaburra Sits In the Old Gumtree after the original composer, Marion Sinclair died in her 90's. She composed the song as part of a competition run by the Girl Guides Association of Victoria  in.......wait for it...... 1934.

The "similarity" of the riff in Down Under and two bars of Kookaburra was first brought to light on ABC's music quiz show, Spicks & Specks. So Larrikin, decided to make some money, 27 years after the release of Down Under.

For shame!!!!!
I personally think this whole situation stinks and is downright, UNAustralian. But have your say by voting in our poll.
